Pervert's Guide to Idelogy

Slavoj Žižek, the famous Slovenian philosopher and cultural theorist, has been dubbed “the most famous dangeous philosopher in the West.” In 2006, he and filmmaker Sophie Fiennes collaborated on “The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema”, in which Žižek analysed scenes from famous films from a psycholanalytical perspective. Now, in their second collaboration, Fiennes and Žižek dive back into film culture to analyse the hidden ideologies behind blockbusters like “Jaws”, “Titanic” and “The Dark Knight.”

If the title puts you off, never fear – in an interview, Žižek said: “The ‘pervert’ from the title is thus not a narrow clinical category; it rather refers to perverting – turning around – our spontaneous perceptions.” So don’t worry, this doco is safe for work.

Accomplished documentary filmmaker Fiennes weaves philosophy, humor and academia into a delectable viewing concoction.

If you’re new to the world of Žižek, you’re in for a treat. If you’re already familiar with his work, and have a strong knowledge of film history, prepare to see your favourite movies in a whole new light.
