Spike Milligan is one of Britan’s most iconic comedians. While The Goon Show made adults roar with laughter, his Silly Verses for Kids were something even the youngest members of the family could get a giggle out of.
And, like many famous clowns, his smile hid a tumultuous personal life. Milligan suffered from severe bipolar disorder, having at least ten severe mental breakdowns throughout his life.
Aussie director Cathy Henkel gained unprecedented access to Milligan’s family shortly after his death, to document Milligan’s extraordinary life through the eyes of those who loved him the most. “I Told You I Was Ill” celebrates Spike’s life with honesty, love, and of course…humour.
