Hope, the inspirational tale of an asylum seeker’s quest for a better life in Australia, can help shed light on the debate surrounding controversial new policies in Australia. The government’s announcement that all future asylum seekers arriving in Australia by boat should be sent to Papua New Guinea for assessment is shameful. If found to be refugees, the plan is to resettle them in a country that is ill-equipped to accommodate their needs.
